VIENTIANE, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Laos has planned to stimulate the wood processing sector so as to boost wood products export, Lao News Agency reported on Friday.
The Department of Forestry under the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in collaboration with the International Trade Center unveiled the Export Guide on High Value-Added Wood Products at a workshop in the Lao capital Vientiane on Thursday.
The workshop offered training on critical details necessary for initiating or expanding export operations targeted at European Union (EU) markets. This encompassed an in-depth understanding of both tariff and non-tariff measures, as well as EU decisions, directives, and regulations, along with insights into wood product categories with high export potential.
Additionally, the workshop clarified product-specific requirements, such as EU procedures for treating wooden packaging to mitigate pest transmission and manage packaging-related risks.
An increasing demand for timber products in Europe offers numerous opportunities for Laos, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises, the report said. ■
