BRASILIA, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's trade balance registered a surplus of 80.21 billion U.S. dollars from January to October, a record high for the first 10 months of a year, the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services said Wednesday.
The figure represents a 57.9-percent increase compared to the same period last year when the surplus amounted to 50.79 billion U.S. dollars.
In October alone, trade balance showed a surplus of 8.96 billion U.S. dollars.
Brazilian Vice President and Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services Geraldo Alckmin predicted on Monday that Brazil's trade balance would end the year with a record surplus of 91 billion U.S. dollars.
According to official data, Brazil's exports this year will total 282.47 billion U.S. dollars, a 0.3 percent daily increase on average compared to last year, while imports will total 202.26 billion U.S. dollars, with a 12.2 percent decline. ■
