KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's crime index fell 4.1 percent year on year to 50,813 cases in 2022, official data showed Thursday.
The Department of Statistics said in a statement that the country's commercial crime also decreased by 3 percent to 30,536 cases in 2022.
The country's cyber crime, however, surged 44.3 percent to 577 cases in 2022 from 400 cases a year ago.
According to the DOSM, the crime index includes assault crimes and property crimes. Both crimes dropped 10 percent and 2.4 percent, respectively, to 10,348 cases and 40,465 cases in 2022.
Meanwhile, all types of offenses under commercial crime in 2022 reported by Royal Malaysia Police decreased except offenses related to counterfeit money and cyber crime. ■
