NEW DELHI, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- India's state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) and French multinational company Safran Aircraft Engines signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop industrial cooperation in ring forging manufacturing for commercial engines, officials said on Saturday.

The agreement was signed on Friday by Mihir Kanti Mishra, CEO of HAL's Bangalore Complex, and Dominique Dupuy, senior vice president of Safran Aircraft Engines in Bengaluru.

According to a statement issued by the HAL, as part of the MoU, it will produce LEAP (Leading Edge Aviation Propulsion), powering Airbus A320 Neo family and Boeing 737 Max engine forgings at its Foundry & Forge facility in Bengaluru.

"Safran is a long-standing partner, especially on our Helicopter programs, as evidenced by the joint development of the Shakti helicopter engine. We are also going to codesign and coproduce the next-generation IMRH (Indian Multi Role Helicopter) engine with Safran," said C. B. Ananthakrishnan, chairman and managing director of HAL.
