India exports 47.98 mln USD mangoes during April-August

NEW DELHI, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- India has witnessed a significant growth in the export of mangoes in the first five months of the current 2023-24 fiscal year by exporting the tropical fruit worth 47.98 million U.S. dollars, officials said Friday.

This is 19 percent higher than the previous fiscal year's value of 40.33 million U.S. dollars during the same period (April to August).

"With the collaboration of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MAFW) and Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), India exported 22,963.78 MT of mangoes worth 48.53 million U.S. dollars in 2022-23, while in the current year 2023-24 (April-August), India has exported 27,330.02 MT of mangoes worth 47.98 million U.S. dollars," the ministry of commerce and industry said.

According to the government, India has also achieved grand success in the export of Indian mangoes to the United States by registering a growth of 19 percent in comparison to the previous fiscal year.

India also expanded its mango exports to 41 countries and regions, exploring new markets in Iran, Mauritius, the Czech Republic and Nigeria.

Officials said APEDA also organized mango promotion programs in collaboration with the missions of India in many countries and regions to promote and increase the export of Indian mangoes.

India celebrates its national Mango Day on July 22 every year.

According to India's National Horticulture Board, about 1,500 varieties of mango are grown in India including 1,000 commercial varieties. Each of the main varieties of mango has a unique taste and flavor.
