GUANGZHOU, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Intermediate People's Court of Guangzhou on Tuesday sentenced two former senior staff members of the China Railway Tunnel Group Co., Ltd. (CRTG) to prison terms and fines for bribery charges.
According to the court's verdict, Xi Zhengbing will serve five years in prison and get a 300,000 yuan (about 41,790 U.S. dollars) fine for bribing foreign government staff and taking bribes. Zhou Zhonghe will serve two years in prison and get a 100,000 yuan fine for bribing foreign government staff.
The court established that from 2017 to 2019, Xi and Zhou offered 220,000 Singapore dollar bribes to the government staff of Singapore to seek illegitimate business interests.
In addition, Xi took advantage of his domestic posts in CRTG between 2003 and 2009 to seek benefits for others in matters such as business operations and monetary settlements. In return, Xi accepted 1.92 million yuan bribery.
Considering their cooperative behavior while handling their cases, Xi and Zhou were both granted a lenient sentence, according to the court. ■
