GAZA/JERUSALEM, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- An Israeli soldier was killed on Sunday in a raid conducted by Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), on the outskirts of the Gaza Strip.
In a press statement sent to Xinhua, Al-Qassam said its fighters "placed an Israeli armored force in a tight ambush east of Khan Younis," adding that they returned to bases safely after "destroying two bulldozers and a tank and forcing the armored force to withdraw."
It noted that the attack on the Israeli troops, who were carrying out an operation to collect information about the missing people, had led to the death of at least one Israeli soldier.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army confirmed in a statement that a soldier was killed and three others wounded by an anti-tank missile launched from Gaza toward its tank and engineering vehicle near Kibbutz Kissufim, an Israeli community in the vicinity of the Palestinian enclave.
According to the statement, the Israeli troops were carrying out activities in the area as "part of the effort to dismantle terrorist infrastructure, clear the area, and locate missing persons and bodies." ■
