CAIRO, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi held talks with visiting King Abdullah II of Jordan on Thursday, discussing the ongoing Israeli escalation in the besieged Palestinian Gaza Strip.

The meeting in Cairo focused on "the subsequent deterioration in the security situation and humanitarian conditions of the brotherly Palestinian people in Gaza and the deaths and injury of thousands," said the Egyptian presidency in a statement.

They also mentioned their joint efforts to push for calm and de-escalation.

The two leaders stressed the need to deliver humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing "in a sustainable manner."

Sisi and Abdullah reiterated that "achieving real and sustainable stability in the region is based on the Palestinian people obtaining their legitimate rights for an independent Palestinian State with East Jerusalem as its capital."

According to Egypt's Al-Qahera News, many trucks loaded with tons of aid supplies were ready at the Egyptian side of the crossing.

The aid shipments have been donated by several countries and the World Health Organization over the past few days through Egypt's El-Arish airport, and are expected to start flowing into Gaza on Friday, according to local media.
