MADRID, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Jenni Hermoso has been called into the latest squad for the Spanish women's national team for the forthcoming UEFA Nations League games against Italy and Switzerland.

The 33-year-old, who plays for Mexican club, Pachuca, returns to the Spain team for the first time following the scandal which erupted after Spain beat England 1-0 in the Women's World Cup final on August 20th.

In the post-game celebrations after Spain's historic win, former Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) President Luis Rubiales gave the forward a non-consensual kiss, unleashing a chain of events that led to him being forced to resign as RFEF chief (and to also face criminal charges of sexual aggression) while Jorge Vilda, who led Spain to victory in Australia, was sacked as coach and replaced by his former assistant Montse Tome.

Other members of the RFEF are also under investigation for allegedly trying to pressure Hermoso and members of her family to withdraw the accusations against Rubiales.

Tome left Hermoso out of her first squad last month, explaining she wanted to "protect" her, although the forward responded "protect me from what? From who?" on social media at the news.
