BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Power supply has been restored to most of the areas affected by a nationwide power disruption that began on Tuesday morning, the Department of Electrical Services (DES) at the Prime Minister's Office said on social media on Wednesday.

The DES also said that scheduled maintenance works aiming at increasing the availability of electric power supply will continue to be carried out for certain areas in the relevant period.

"Each announcement of a scheduled maintenance will contain information about the place and time of the maintenance," the DES said.

Brunei has experienced a sudden and extensive power outage since around 11:30 a.m. local time on Tuesday.

Residents and the government 123 hotlines told Xinhua that the most significantly affected regions were Brunei-Muara district, Tudong district and the primary oil and gas production area Belait district.

This unexpected power outage has caused widespread inconvenience and daily life disruptions, affecting commercial buildings, businesses, educational institutions, hospitals and traffic.
