SYDNEY, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Fire authority in the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) on Saturday confirmed the death of a volunteer firefighter in battling bushfire in the Kyogle region.
"The volunteer was working on a fire at Bean Creek when he suffered a medical episode," the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) noted in a statement.
The agency's fire information system showed that the Bean Creek blaze has burnt approximately 417 hectares but is not yet under control.
Currently, there are more than 60 wildfires burning across the state.
With warm, dry, and gusty conditions forecast for Sunday, a total fire ban has been issued for the Greater Hunter region, while seven other areas are likely to face high fire danger, including the state's capital Sydney. ■
