KIEV, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that Ukraine's natural gas reserves are sufficient to meet the needs of domestic consumers during the cold season, the presidential press service reported Friday.

"It is very important that today we have absolutely sufficient gas stocks in storage -- 15.5 billion cubic meters," Shmyhal said during a meeting of the Presidium of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities.

Ukraine has also stockpiled about 1.2 million tons of coal ahead of winter, Shmyhal said, adding that the country continues accumulating energy resources.

In the previous heating season, from early October 2022 to the middle of April 2023, Ukraine consumed 5.572 billion cubic meters of gas from its underground storage facilities.
