KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's industrial production index (IPI) dipped 0.3 percent in August as manufacturing export-oriented industries declined while domestic-oriented industries continued to expand, official data showed Thursday.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that the fall was attributed to contraction in the manufacturing sector with a negative growth of 0.6 percent.
On the other hand, the mining sector grew 0.1 percent. The electricity sector also expanded 1.9 percent.
As compared to the previous month, the IPI increased 2.8 percent.
As for the IPI performance for the first eight months of 2023, the IPI grew merely 1 percent.
During the period, positive growth was recorded in the manufacturing index at 1.2 percent, mining index at 0.2 percent, and electricity index at 1.6 percent. ■
