Palestinian death toll from Israeli attacks hit 1,417: health ministry-Xinhua

GAZA, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- The death toll of the Palestinians from the ongoing Israeli strikes on Gaza hit 1,417, while another 6,268 were wounded, according to the Gaza-based health ministry.

Israel on Thursday continued its airstrikes on various areas of the Gaza Strip.

The airstrikes were carried out in response to a large-scale surprise attack launched by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on Saturday.

Israel's public broadcaster Kan said the Israeli death toll had risen to more than 1,300. ■
