YANGON, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- A total of 27,302 people in Bago of southern Myanmar have been taking shelter in 47 relief camps as of Tuesday evening due to floods triggered by surging river level, the state-run television channel MRTV reported.
According to the country's Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, the water level of Bago River in Bago has been above its danger level since Sunday.
The water level of Bago River in Bago city on Tuesday was about four feet above its danger level, the weather bureau said, adding that it is expected to decrease about six inches in one day.
The rail trips running through Bago Region have been suspended since Sunday, a railway official said.
"It is the biggest flood that I have ever experienced in my life of 35 years. No drinking water and nothing to be cooked. Everything was inundated," Aye Aye Aung, a Bago resident, told Xinhua.
Rescue operations were underway. ■
