BEIJING, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China:
FAST RADIO BURST
Chinese scientists have detected a new fast radio burst (FRB) from elsewhere in the universe with the help of the world's largest radio telescope.
FRBs are mysterious radio flashes lasting only a few thousandths of a second that were confirmed in 2016 to originate from the cosmos. There is still no explanation for their origins.
DINOSAUR TRACK
Scientists have confirmed that a group of fossilized footprints found in Hami, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, were left by flesh-eating dinosaurs that lived on Earth more than 120 million years ago.
The dinosaur track site is located in the Turpan-Hami Basin. A research team led by the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology has discovered a total of nine small footprints on the site since 2006.
QUANTUM COMPUTER PROTOTYPE
Chinese scientists unveiled a quantum computer prototype named "Jiuzhang 3.0" with 255 detected photons on Wednesday, once again pushing the boundaries of photonics quantum computing technology.
Led by the renowned Chinese quantum physicist Pan Jianwei, the research team has successfully accomplished this quantum computing feat, achieving a speed that is 10 quadrillion times faster in solving Gaussian boson sampling (GBS) problems compared to the world's existing fastest supercomputers. ■
