AMMAN, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- King Abdullah II of Jordan on Monday underscored the importance of exercising self-restraint, protecting civilians, and respecting international humanitarian law amidst the escalation of tension in the Gaza Strip and its surrounding areas.
The king made the remarks in a phone conversation with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, during which they discussed the latest developments of the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli conflict, according to a statement by the Royal Hashemite Court.
King Abdullah emphasized the UN's role in calling for international efforts to end the escalation, and reiterated the importance of finding a just solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict to maintain peace and security in the region. ■
