BEIJING, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Sun Shutao, a former senior political advisor of east China's Shandong Province, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and dismissed from public office over serious violations of Party discipline and laws, the country's top anti-graft body said Monday.
The decision came following an investigation by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision upon the approval of the CPC Central Committee.
Sun was a member of the leading Party members group of the Shandong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and vice chairperson of the committee.
He is found to have lost his ideals and convictions, betrayed his original aspirations and mission, deceived the Party, and rejected investigations into his problems, according to an official statement.
He is also found to have violated an eight-point code aimed at improving Party and government conduct, accepting money and shopping cards, as well as arrangements for banquets and care retreats that could have compromised his impartiality in performing his duties.
Sun is alleged to have sought gains for others in the selection and promotion of officials, obtained high financial returns through private enterprises, and abused his power to benefit his relatives in their business operations.
Sun fabricated economic data to glorify his performance, traded power for money, took advantage of his positions to seek gains for others in business operations and job promotion, and accepted a large amount of money and gifts in return, according to the statement.
These actions have gravely breached Party discipline and constitute serious duty-related crimes, the anti-graft body said, adding that Sun is also suspected of criminal offenses of accepting bribes.
In line with Party regulations and laws, a decision has been made to expel Sun from the Party, remove him from public office, terminate his qualification as a delegate to the CPC Shandong provincial congress, and confiscate his illicit gains.
The case will be referred to the procuratorate for criminal investigation and prosecution, according to the anti-graft body. ■
