YANGON, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar exported 1,253 tons of honey worth over 1.879 million U.S. dollars in first six months of the 2023-24 fiscal year through next March, the Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department said on Friday.

In the 2022-23 fiscal year, Myanmar exported more than 1,900 tons of honey, earning over 2.8 million U.S. dollars, the department said.

Availability of quality honey leads to an increase in honey purchases. In addition, the department has launched a national surveillance program on food safety, which helps ensure the quality of honey for export, according to a department official.

The Southeast Asian country mainly exported the honey to Japan, China, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and South Korea, the department said.

Myanmar's animal product exports, including honey, were valued at 4.004 million U.S. dollars during the April-September period this year, showed data from the Ministry of Commerce.
