PUL-E-KHUMRI, Afghanistan, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Police have discovered and destroyed a drug processing lab in Dushi district of north Afghanistan's Baghlan province, district police chief Mawlawi Khalidin Saqib said Thursday.
Acting on tip-off, the police raided a place in Dara-e-Kayan area of Dushi district on Wednesday, destroying a drug lab with a quantity of heroin and the objects used in manufacturing drugs, the official added.
Four suspects have been arrested with regard to the case for further investigation, the official went on to say.
In similar operations, police also discovered and destroyed a drug lab in Patoy district of the central Daykundu province a day earlier on Tuesday and took into custody five people on charge of involvement in the illegal business.
The Afghan caretaker government banned the cultivation of illicit crops including hashish, poppy, drug processing and drug trafficking in April 2022. Since then, the administration has intensified the war on producing illegal drugs and trafficking to get rid Afghanistan of drug menace. ■
