A Philippine cyclist has tested positive for non-specified prohibited substance erythropoietin (EPO), marking the third doping case at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
HANGZHOU, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- The International Testing Agency (ITA) confirmed on Wednesday that Philippine cyclist Ariana Thea Patrice Dormitorio Evangelista has tested positive for non-specified prohibited substance erythropoietin (EPO) during the Hangzhou Asian Games.
"Two samples (blood and urine) were collected by the ITA at the Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 during an out-of-competition anti-doping control performed on September 24," the ITA said.
"The athlete has been informed of the case and has been provisionally suspended with immediate effect. She has the right to request the analysis of the B-sample."
Evangelista competed in the women's cross-country mountain bike competition on September 25 and finished 13th.
It's the third doping case at the September 23-October 8 Asiad. Earlier, Saudi Arabia's long-distance runner Mohammed Yousef Al-Asiri had also been provisionally suspended for testing positive for darbepoetin, and Afghan boxer Mohammad Khaibar Nooristani tested positive for prohibited substances 19-norandrosterone and Clostebol metabolite 4-chloro-3a-hydroxy-androst-4-en-17-one.
The ITA, mandated by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), independently handles the anti-doping program at the Hangzhou Asian Games. ■
