ISTANBUL, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- A new research revealed on Friday that in Türkiye, the minimum food expenses to sustain a family of four surged by more than 84 percent year on year and 9.31 percent month on month in September.

This research, conducted by the Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions (Turk-Is), showed that the food budget for a family of four to sustain a healthy and balanced diet has now surpassed 13,000 Turkish liras (around 474 U.S. dollars).

Turk-Is attributes the surge in food prices to inadequate production and rising agricultural input costs.

Furthermore, the report notes that the living cost for a single worker, including rent, transportation, education, and food, reached 17,300 liras in September, well above the 11,400 lira minimum wage.

Türkiye has been dealing with the persistent high inflation, which reached 58.9 percent in August.
