GAZA, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- At least four Palestinians were killed in a blast near the border with Israel, east of Gaza City.
Some 19 others were injured in the explosion that took place during a mass demonstration of the Palestinians, according to the Hamas-run Health Ministry in Gaza.
Palestinian security sources and eyewitnesses told Xinhua that before the blast, there was a clash between dozens of Palestinian protestors and Israeli soldiers along the border fence, during which Israeli soldiers targetted them with live bullets and tear gas bombs.
The IDF said Israeli soldiers resorted to dispersal measures after the Palestinians hurled explosive devices and grenades at the barrier, according to The Times of Israel.
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, but the IDF claimed the explosive devices were placed by the Palestinian "rioters" during the gathering, attempting to hurt Israelis. ■
