HANOI, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's rice exports in the first eight months of 2023 surged to an all-time high of nearly 6 million tons, up 20 percent year-on-year, according to the General Department of Customs.

This has brought Vietnam's total rice export turnover in the first eight months to almost 3.2 billion U.S. dollars, a 34-percent increase in value.

With that achievement, Vietnam has reached 89 percent of the whole year's rice export target.

An enterprise CEO said that rice supply in the Vietnamese market will remain relatively stable in the fourth quarter, while demand in many countries has increased significantly.

Thanks to the Southeast Asian country's favorable conditions, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has set a target of exporting 7.5-7.8 million tons of rice this year.

According to the Vietnam Food Association, prices of Vietnam's exported rice are still the highest in the world, with that of 5 percent broken rice reaching 638 U.S. dollars per ton, and 25 percent broken rice at 623 dollars per ton.
