ISLAMABAD, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Remittances sent by overseas Pakistani workers increased by 3.1 percent in August month on month, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) said on Monday.

The workers' remittances recorded an inflow of 2.092 billion U.S. dollars in August as compared to the previous month's figure of 2.029 billion dollars, the SBP data showed.

Cumulatively, it received an inflow of 4.12 billion dollars in the first two months of the current fiscal year from July 2023 to June 2024, it added.

Last month, overseas remittances mainly came from Saudi Arabia with 490.1 million dollars, Britain with 331.3 million dollars, the United Arab Emirates with 308 million dollars, and the United States with 262.4 million dollars, according to the central bank.

Remittances by overseas workers play an important role in Pakistan's economy as they are one of the major sources of foreign exchange.
