KUALA LUMPUR, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- The sales value of the manufacturing sector amounted to 144 billion ringgit (about 30.8 billion U.S. dollars), which decreased 3 percent in July, official data showed Monday.
The sales value of the manufacturing sector fell for the second consecutive month in July, narrowing to negative 3 percent year-on-year, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement.
The deterioration was primarily influenced by the petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastic sub-sector.
In comparison with the previous month, sales value decreased 2.4 percent.
As for the performance for the first seven months, the sales value of the manufacturing sector reached 1.03 trillion ringgit, which increased 2.5 percent compared to the same period in the preceding year. (1 ringgit equals 0.21 U.S. dollars) ■
