CAIRO, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi hailed on Saturday the admission of the African Union (AU) as a full member to the Group of 20 (G20), said the Egyptian presidency in a statement.
The Egyptian president stressed that the move is "a step in the right direction that offers an opportunity to set the continent's priorities on the international agenda."
Sisi's remarks came during an Africa-Europe mini-summit held on the sidelines of the G20 summit underway in New Delhi, India.
During the mini-summit, African and European leaders agreed on the importance of continuing coordination and action to boost their partnership and achieve mutual interests and gains, according to the statement.
On Saturday, G20 members agreed to grant permanent membership to the AU in an effort to make the group more representative. ■
