GUANGZHOU, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Song Tao, head of both the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, on Friday met with James Soong Chu-yu, chairman of the People First Party (PFP) from Taiwan, in the mainland province of Guangdong.
Soong is in Guangdong's Zhongshan city to attend a cross-Strait forum.
Stressing that the peaceful development of cross-Strait ties is a common choice of compatriots on both sides of the Strait that goes in line with the trend of the times, Song expressed hope that the PFP will firmly adhere to the one-China principle, take concrete actions to oppose "Taiwan independence" separatism and external interference, strengthen cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation, and make efforts to get cross-Strait relations back on the track of peaceful development.
Soong expressed the PFP's consistent one-China stance and opposition to "Taiwan independence," calling for closer cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation for the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. ■
