NEW DELHI, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Indian government Wednesday approved a viability gap funding (VGF) scheme for creating battery energy storage systems (BESS) in the country, officials said.
The approved scheme envisages development of 4,000 MWh of BESS projects by 2030-2031, with the financial support of up to 40 percent of the capital cost as budgetary support in the form of VGF.
The scheme has been designed to harness potential of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power and aims to provide clean, reliable and affordable electricity to the people. ■
