BUENOS AIRES, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Gonzalo Piovi and Juan Fernando Quintero scored either side of halftime as Racing Club secured a 2-1 home win over Estudiantes in Argentina's Primera Division on Sunday.
Piovi put the hosts ahead by converting a 34th-minute penalty after Gabriel Rojas was brought down by Santiago Ascacibar.
Colombia international midfielder Quintero doubled the advantage just after halftime when he finished coolly on the counterattack.
Estudiantes pulled a goal back in stoppage time through Mauro Mendez, who scored from the penalty spot after a Piovi handball.
The result leaves Racing third in Group B with two wins and a draw from three games while Estudiantes are last in the 14-team group, having yet to pick up a point.
In other Primera Division fixtures on Sunday, Banfield won 1-0 at Instituto, Sarmiento drew 1-1 at Defensa y Justicia, Rosario Central prevailed 2-0 at Talleres Cordoba, Atletico Tucuman drew 2-2 at Argentinos Juniors and Tigre won 1-0 at Boca Juniors. ■
