BUENOS AIRES, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Claudio Aquino and Santiago Castro scored either side of halftime as Velez Sarsfield cruised to a 2-0 home win over River Plate in Argentina's Primera Division on Saturday.
Aquino put the hosts ahead at El Fortin with a 22nd-minute strike after combining with Lautaro Giannetti.
The hosts doubled their advantage on the hour as Castro received Juan Mendez's pass before rifling home from outside the 18-yard box.
The result leaves Velez fourth in the 14-team Group A standings with six points from three outings, three points ahead of seventh-placed River Plate.
In other Primera Division fixtures on Saturday, Independiente won 2-1 at Gimnasia, Godoy Cruz drew 2-2 at Lanus, Belgrano were held to a 1-1 home draw by Newell's Old Boys and Huracan prevailed 2-1 at home to Colon. ■
