BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- Brunei's fixed broadband baseline speed for all telecommunication subscribers has been raised to at least 100Mbps on Friday, said a statement from Unified National Networks Sdn Bhd (UNN), the Sultanate's wholesale telecommunication service provider.

According to UNN, with the joint efforts of the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI), Darussalam Assets Sdn Bhd, the holding company of several major government-linked corporations, UNN and three retail telecommunication service providers, namely DST, Imagine and Progresif, fixed broadband baseline speed has been increased to at least 100Mbps for all subscribers.

"Brunei telecommunications industry remains steadfast in its priorities toward enhancing the nation's telecommunications network, products, and services with an overarching purpose to elevate internet experience for consumers and local businesses," the statement said.

Increasing fixed broadband speed to 100Mbps up to 500Mbps bandwidths allows for faster transmission speed and helps improve customers' internet experience for online activities like web browsing and streaming high-quality content.

It was the second initiative under the Fixed Broadband Uplift Program from the Brunei telecommunications industry to bolster the digitalization of Brunei's economy as aligned with the Digital Economy Masterplan 2024 and Wawasan Brunei 2035 to transform Brunei into a Smart Nation, the statement said.
