KUALA LUMPUR, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- Thousands of Malaysians thronged to the city of Putrajaya to celebrate the 66th anniversary of Independence Day with parades, fireworks and gatherings under the theme of unifying ties between diverse groups.
On Aug. 31, 1957, the then Federation of Malaya gained independence from British rule.
