OKINAWA, Japan, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- Slovenia clinched a 91-80 victory over Australia in the second group stage game to maintain its winning streak at the 2023 FIBA World Cup here on Friday.
Australia, who had taken the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics by beating Slovenia, trailed 28-18 after the first quarter. Though Slovenia's star player Luka Doncic fell into foul trouble soon after the beginning of second quarter, Australia was unable to narrow the gap until the end of the match.
With Georgia's loss in Group K's other game, Germany and Slovenia advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
Mike Tobey achieved a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds. Doncic notched 19 points, seven rebounds, six assists.
Josh Giddey was Australia's top performer with 25 points and eight rebounds, while Patty Mills contributed 17 points. ■
