BEIJING, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese authorities on Friday evening issued orange and yellow alerts for possible geological disasters triggered by heavy rains in parts of south and southwest China.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and the China Meteorological Administration issued an orange alert for geological disasters in the south of Guangdong from 8 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Saturday.
The two government departments also warned of risks of rain-induced geological disasters in parts of Fujian, Guangdong and Yunnan in a yellow alert.
Residents have been advised to take precautions, especially in areas with hidden dangers.
China has a four-tier, color-coded warning system for geological disasters, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue. ■
