BEIJING, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- China's National Meteorological Center issued a yellow alert for rainstorms on Thursday evening as heavy downpours are expected to lash multiple regions.
From 8 p.m. Thursday to 8 p.m. Friday, heavy downpours and rainstorms are forecast to hit Guangdong, Fujian, and Taiwan Island, according to the center.
Some parts will experience heavy rainfall, with maximum hourly precipitation over 80 millimeters, accompanied by thunderstorms and gales.
The center has advised local governments to prepare for rainstorms. Traffic management departments should take traffic control measures on road sections with heavy rainfall and guide traffic in waterlogged sections.
The center has also suggested disconnecting risky outdoor power supplies and suspending outdoor operations in open areas.
China has a four-tier weather warning system, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue. ■
