KABUL, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's central bank Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB) has launched a plan to promote the use of the national currency afghani and ban the use of foreign money in domestic transactions, state media reported Wednesday.
The plan aims to strengthen the banking sector and stabilize the value of afghani, Bakhtar reported.
Hedayatullah Badri, acting governor of the DAB, in a recent meeting held in the southern province of Kandahar, urged the people of the southern region to "fulfill their civic obligation of promoting the local currency by utilizing it in all domestic transactions," the media organization reported.
According to the foreign exchange rate issued by the DAB, the value of 1 U.S. dollar dropped to 77.91 afghanis on Wednesday, compared to more than 90 afghanis earlier this year. ■
