TEHRAN, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Iranian army on Friday launched a large-scale drill in central Iran to test its electronic warfare systems.
Iranian army's ground force, air force, navy and air defense all participated in the drill codenamed Separ-e Hafezan-e Velayat 1402 (Shield of the Guardians of Velayat 1402), according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency.
According to a statement from the army, the drill featured air-based electronic backup operations by the Air Force's fighters as well as manned and unmanned aircraft.
The statement added that the electronic defense systems stationed in the war game's area successfully carried out passive defense and electronic defense operations against mock enemy's invading drones and micro aerial vehicles.
The exercises also featured aerial tracking using Air Force fighters as well as standoff jamming and deception using combat helicopters, said the statement. ■
