CAIRO, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on Thursday appointed Mohamed Shawqy as the new prosecutor-general.
Shawqy replaced Hamada El-Sawy who was appointed in Sept. 2019. The new decision will be enforced on Sept. 19, said the presidency in a statement.
The new top prosecutor served as the president of the Alexandria Court of Appeals.
The public general prosecutor is to be appointed from among members of the judiciary authority by the president for a period of four years. ■
