MADRID, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen on Friday signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until June 2028.
"I have just renewed my contract and I'm very happy to be here five more years with you. I hope we can lift a lot of trophies during that time," he said on Barcelona's social media after signing his new deal.
The 31-year-old joined Barcelona from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2014, and played in the UEFA Champions League and the Copa del Rey in his first season, helping Barca win both trophies.
He only made seven league appearances in his second campaign, but has been virtually ever-present since then and has so far made a total of 379 appearances for the club, which makes him the goalkeeper with the fourth most appearances in Barcelona's history.
If he plays regularly this season, Ter Stegen could overtake Antoni Ramallets and Andoni Zubizarrera (with 387 and 410 appearances respectively) to leave only Victor Valdes, with 535 appearances, ahead of him. ■
