SHARAN, Afghanistan, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- A total of 15 projects in east Afghanistan's Paktika Province aimed at providing locals with access to irrigation water and transportation facilities, said a statement of the country's Ministry of Energy and Water on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the projects were worth 22,500 U.S. dollars.
Under the projects, local authorities constructed roads, cleaned 1,400 meters of irrigation canals, and built up a retaining wall in the Zerok District of Paktika, the statement further said.
The projects have made carrying passenger and commercial motorcades simpler, helped supply water to hundreds of acres of farmland, and prevented the destruction of dwellings and farmland from potential floods.
War-ridden Afghanistan is vulnerable to earthquakes and floods, and the eastern provinces are among the most frequently stricken regions. ■
