TEHRAN, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said on Sunday his country is ready to exchange experiences with Colombia in the fight against the narcotics trade.

Raisi made the remarks in a meeting with the newly accredited Colombian Ambassador to Iran Julio Anibal Riano Velandia, according to a statement released on the website of the Iranian president's office.

During their meeting, Raisi said that despite the intense foreign pressures and sanctions on Iran, the country has made major strides in the scientific, technological and industrial areas, and is determined to deepen its ties with Latin American states.

The Colombian ambassador said the promotion of economic cooperation and trade exchanges with Iran were among his country's priorities.

He said he hoped that with the improvement of the two countries' diplomatic relations, the ground would be prepared for accelerating the implementation of the 15 cooperation documents between the two sides.
