VILNIUS, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service announced that a new record daily high temperature was set on August 17, a day after record high weather temperature was observed on August 16.
The temperature in the town of Birstonas reached 33.6 degrees Celsius, while in Alytus and Druskininkai, it was 33.5 degrees Celsius at 2 p.m. on Thursday.
The previous record high weather temperature on August 17 was recorded a year ago in Vente, Silute district, when it was 32 degrees Celsius.
New record high temperatures were also observed on August 16 in Alytus, Birstonas and Kalvarija, standing at 34.2 degrees Celsius.
The hottest 16th of August on record of Lithuania was in 2010 when the mercury shot to 34 degrees Celsius in Utena, BNS news agency reported. ■
