RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Santos is close to signing veteran Venezuelan midfielder Tomas Rincon, according to media reports in Brazil.
The 35-year-old posted a photo on social media late on Tuesday in which he is seen on an airplane accompanied by a caption showing a whale, Santos' official mascot.
Globo Esporte reported that he will sign an 18-month contract, pending the results of a medical exam on Wednesday.
Rincon is a free agent after parting ways with Italian Serie A outfit Sampdoria in June. He has also represented Torino, Juventus, Genoa and Hamburg over a 17-year professional career that includes 126 Venezuela caps.
Santos is currently 17th in Brazil's 20-team Serie A standings with just four wins at the season's halfway point. ■
