SHENYANG, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- China has witnessed a movie frenzy this summer. And domestic movies are more popular among moviegoers across the country.
During this summer movie season that started on June 1, more than 40 new movies have been released in theaters nationwide.
As of August 11, the mainland's summer box-office haul had exceeded 16 billion yuan (about 2.2 billion U.S. dollars).
The top three highest-grossing films are all domestic productions, including the suspense crime film Lost in the Stars, a true-story-adapted drama Never Say Never, and the first installment of a fantasy trilogy Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms, followed by No More Bets, a movie about overseas online fraud.
Industry practitioners attribute the popularity of Chinese domestic productions to their traditional oriental aesthetics and story-telling techniques.
