BEIRUT, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Lebanese army on Thursday retrieved a truck allegedly carrying Hezbollah munitions that had overturned in northern Lebanon, a day after clashes between members of the Lebanon-based armed group and villagers left two people dead.
The army announced in a statement that it had reopened the Kahale road that was blocked by villagers on Wednesday, and it would continue to monitor the situation and take appropriate security measures.
The truck overturned on Wednesday evening in Kahale, a village in Mount Lebanon in the northern part of the country, prompting villagers to rush to the truck. The ensuing clashes between Hezbollah members and villagers left two people dead and several others injured.
While local media reported that the truck was carrying Hezbollah munitions, the Shiite group has not confirmed this.
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati has called for an investigation into the incident. ■
