KABUL, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Khalil Rahman Haqqani, Afghanistan's acting minister of refugees, called for legal aid for Afghan refugees in a meeting with a United Nations (UN) official, Afghan television TOLOnews reported on Tuesday evening.
While holding talks with Daniel Peter Endres, UN Deputy Special Representative and Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator ad interim for Afghanistan, the senior official also discussed the Afghan refugees in many other countries, the situation of the internally displaced persons in Afghanistan, as well as the aid distribution mechanism.
According to the UN Refugee Agency, Afghans are one of the largest refugee populations in the world. There are reportedly 7 million Afghan refugees worldwide with the majority of them in Pakistan and Iran. ■
