TEHRAN, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- A senior Iranian diplomat said on Tuesday that the collective capacities and capabilities of the BRICS countries have elevated the five-member bloc's standing in the global community.
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs Mehdi Safari made the remarks at a conference titled "Iran and BRICS: Prospects for Partnership and Cooperation" in the capital Tehran, the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA) reported.
Despite facing tough sanctions, Safari highlighted Iran's strong potential to carry out cooperation with BRICS countries in the fields of transportation, energy, and technical and engineering services, adding Iran is willing to deepen its economic ties with the bloc that includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
He noted that the BRICS can increase its global clout by strengthening cooperation with other countries, stressing that Iran welcomes any move and contribution toward the promotion of multilateralism globally. ■
