COLOMBO, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan government advanced the timeline to achieve climate goals from 2060 to 2050 for the South Asian country, according to a statement from the President's Media Division (PMD) on Saturday.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe made the remarks when addressing an international conference on architecture held in the capital Colombo, which was organized by Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Chapter in Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Italian Embassy of Sri Lanka.
According to the PMD, the president believes achieving the climate goals before 2050 is feasible, but it depends on available resources. He urged architects in Sri Lanka to consider climate change criteria in their work.
The president emphasized that Sri Lanka has demonstrated a strong commitment to addressing climate change goals.
"Going forward, Sri Lankan architects will play a pivotal role in this endeavour. They will need to integrate climate change criteria into their designs, ensuring that the built environment aligns with sustainable and environmentally responsible practices," he said. ■
