ISLAMABAD, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's weekly inflation, measured by the Sensitive Price Index (SPI), posted an increase of 29.8 percent on a year-on-year basis, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Saturday.

The SPI was computed to assess the price movement of essential commodities and it comprised 51 essential items collected from 50 markets in 17 cities of the country, according to the PBS.

During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 23 items increased, seven items decreased and 21 items remained stable, the PBS said.

The PBS added that the increase in the SPI was attributed to an increase in the prices of liquefied petroleum gas, petrol and diesel, chili powder, garlic, tomatoes, onion, powdered milk, eggs and broken basmati rice.

On the other hand, a decrease was recorded in the prices of chicken, mustard oil, vegetable oil, wheat flour and pulses during the same period.
